Serious Sport or Social Fun

Ice fishing is it a serious sport or social fun?

Serious Sport:
Tournaments draw thousands of competitive people
Fish caught usually end up on the dinner table
Weather conditions can be life threatening

Social Fun:
Many war stories are shared on the ice
Beverages are plentiful
Most fishing rigs are hands off
All ages can have fun

Tasty Delight Along the Trail

Morel mushrooms are delicious treats all by themselves, sauteed in some butter!

Like:  Pops up early in the Spring, fun to hunt for, grows in multiple ground conditions and across the country, great eating

Dislike:  Caution needed.  A Fake Morel if eaten, can result in death! Primarily grows in the early Spring

Happy Hunting!

Good Luck or Bad Luck

You are out for a walk and the next thing you know

Our thoughts,

Good Luck if .....
It missed your mouth.
The person you are with received twice as much.

Bad Luck if .....
You are wearing a brand new coat.
Yesterday, you were also the receiver.
It's black on white or white on black.

Your thoughts?

More Than Just Fishing

Fall is a great time to fish.  There are tricks to know for fishing in the fall, see some below.  Fall is also a fantastic time to enjoy the outdoors.  Cool crisp mornings, warmth in the afternoons.  Colors on the hills and across the valleys.  There are many ponds and streams that make great fishing holes. We like to combine a few hours fishing with a wonderful hike and camping experience.

How do you like to spend your fall days outside?

Bluebirds Bring Hope

Bluebirds come in and out of our lives. For my wife Kathleen, they are a sign of hope.  Years have passed without us seeing a bluebird.  However, when she needs a sign the most, a bluebird can be found in her vicinity.

Surviving in the Wild

I have foraged off of wild plants in a time of need.  This is one plant of many that can provide needed nutrition if caught without food in the wild.  ALL parts are edible.  See more at the video below.

Amaranth

Do you have an edible plant survival story to share?
